Year of the Water Dragon: Day 1

It's 'choi yatt' (day 1) of Chinese New Year and every morning I wake up to a bowl of 'mee sua' or longevity noodles. Not every Chinese culture practices this but my family does. And with every bowl of mee sua, we get a year older and live a year longer.

Like everyone else, we succumb to superstitions such as to not use a pair of scissors or sweep the floor or you'll be throwing your good luck away. Nor should we wear black and red is most auspicious colour to every Chinese New Year.

A beautiful piece created by my mum.

With every new year, we buy new clothes too! yeah!!

Then there is the tea ceremony or in my case, angpao (red packet) receiving ceremony with no tea wishing them all things good.
